Bridge of Technology | Nikita Baza & Mishaal Yazdani | TEDxYouth@AnnArbor
How can technology bring people closer who are thousands on miles apart? Nikita & Mishaal will explain how they are volunteering with girls from Grace Girls School in Sri Lanka. Both groups of girls are learning something special from each other, while they are miles apart.
Nikita traveled to Grace in 2014 and 2015 and worked on projects related to mental health and education. She is working with Dr. Alan Krohn, an Ann Arbor based child psychologist to identify children at risk for post traumatic stress disorder and depression. Once these children are identified they are referred to local mental health resources for care. To date four children have benefited from this program with demonstrated improvement in their behavior and academic performance.
Mishaal Yazdani is a freshman at Skyline High School. She enjoys Skyping every Saturday morning with the girls at the Grace Care Center, an orphanage based in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and hopes to visit them in the near future. She is interested in pursuing a career in the health and medical field so she can help many individuals and touch their lives in different ways.
