Program Overview:
Our extensive educational program includes daily tutoring in math and English, access to computers / the Internet. In addition to this, Grace girls benefit from a collaborative and innovative mentoring program where U.S. high school students work with them to improve outcomes in reading and math.
A rotating group of 34 high schoolers work in pairs with groups of 2-3 girls reading books with them, watching movies and teaching them English from Sri-lankan based textbooks. Zoom and slack channels have been set up for program communication and coordination. The orphans spend about 2 hours every week-end with the US based students whose high school donates $1,500 towards their expenses. To celebrate their success the High Schoolers are creating a “Grace English Empowerment Yearbook”.
Prior to the disruption of Covid, the children were provided with local tutors who taught sewing, classical carnatic music, cake making and decorating, and dance. Classes should resume soon.
